The
Home and Garden area is the centre of Moreton Show.
Farming, food and family fun are on the agenda for Moreton Show
2022, with the Home & Garden Marquee in the heart of the showground. This
hidden gem embraces the very idea of the Show - where there really is something
for everyone.
The vegetables classes are always outstanding and always a great
battle to find out who has the best blanched leeks and which beetroot is the
most perfectly rounded. Although the growing conditions may have been a little
tricky this year, there is no doubt that the green fingered competitors will
‘pull it out the patch’ once again.
And it’s not just vegetables! There are flower arranging
competitions, including roses, dahlias,
chrysanthemums and many other blooms. They are all an absolute delight to see,
plus they make to Home & Garden Marquee smell divine.
Bakers, wine makers, beekeepers and brewers all have competitions
to enter. The ‘Fruit Cake’ and the ‘Victoria Jam Sandwich’ competitions are
always popular, and the honey classes are a fantastic way to support British
beekeepers, as the classes are strictly open to English bees only.
The Handicrafts and Art section encompasses everything from ‘A
walking stick in any medium’ to ‘A photo of anything purple’. There are also
some great classes to keep the children entertained over the summer holidays
too. The running theme for the children’s classes is farming, encouraging the
younger generation to join in, and a great way to teach children about the
farming industry - whilst having a lot of fun!
Moreton Show Secretary, Esther Watts says: “This is my first year
in the role and Home & Garden is one of my favourite parts of the job! I
can’t think of another job where you’d talk about baking, types of potato and
photography all in one meeting. Everyone needs to pop into the Home &
Garden Marquee on Show Day, it is an absolute spectacle!”
So, make a beeline for the Home & Garden Marquee on Show Day
and prepare to be amazed, you may even be tempted to enter next year.
