The country’s best horses and ponies will be battling for two new Supreme Championship titles at this year’s Moreton Show on Saturday, September 2nd.
For the first time, Moreton Show, which is the finale to the summer equestrian season, will have a Supreme Champion Horse and a Supreme Champion Pony.
The top prizes will be open to horses and ponies taking part in the 35 classes at Moreton Show which are qualifiers for the prestigious Horse of the Year Show at the NEC in Birmingham in October. Horses in the Retraining of Racehorses qualifiers will also be eligible for the championship title.
Moreton Show is currently talking to potential sponsors for the new Supreme Championships and the prize fund is expected to be a significant amount.
Moreton Show horse secretary, Liz Day said: ‘We have a tremendous number of extremely high quality horses entering our show and we wanted to reward the very best of the best. We’re currently looking for sponsors to partner what will be one of the country’s most exciting championships at the end of the summer.
‘The champion and reserve of each eligible class will go forward to the Supreme Championships and with new judges taking a look at the horses, it’s even possible that the reserve could win the big title.’
Moreton Show is the biggest one-day agricultural show in the country and is considered to be one of the premier equestrian competition venues for horse and pony showing. This year, there are two extra HOYS qualifiers at Moreton, for Junior Mountain and Moorland Ponies.
Liz Day added: ‘‘The Supreme Championships will be an exciting climax to our show classes and we’re thrilled to be staging the championships for the first time in what will be our 65th show. The high standards we see at Moreton Show deserve to be recognised and we hope that our new championships will celebrate all the hard work and dedication that is involved in caring for horses and ponies.’
Full details of how to enter will be released in the Moreton Show Horse Schedule, which will be published in May. Details will also be on the show website at www.moretonshow.co.uk
