Moreton Show is set
to return to the North Cotswolds on Saturday 7th September, and it promises
a bumper crop of farming, food and family fun!
CAPTION: Pop the date in your diary: Saturday 7th September. Don’t miss
the farming, food and family fun of the one-day agricultural extravaganza at
Moreton Show 2024.
Moreton Show celebrates its 75th year on
the same beloved showground it started in 1949. This year, the Grand Arena
timetable is chock-a-block with exciting acts and classes to watch.
The team extend a warm welcome to the fantastic
Shetland Pony Grand National – spectators are usually on the edge of their
seats as these mini jockeys race around the Grand Arena on their super steeds
over Easyfix Equine small brush fences. The small-scale Grand National will not
only raise a smile but also vital funds for the Bob Champion Cancer Trust, a
charity established in 1983 by Grand National winning jump jockey Bob Champion.
The Farmers Bloodhounds will be parading in the Grand Arena this year as well,
so there will be ample opportunity to meet the happy hounds. Visitors won’t
want to miss the Hayman-Joyce Pony Club Pairs Relay, or the Grand Parade of all
the cattle, sheep and goats entered in 2024 either. Moreton Show will also host
an array of livestock breeds in the Livestock Area, including the animals
entered into the new Rare Breeds classes.
The Horse Area is going to be a hive of activity too.
When the incredible Heavy Horses are not parading around the Grand Arena,
visitors will be able to find them in the Hooky Horse Area. The Arena Eventing
Challenge returns after being very popular last year - with both competitors
and spectators. The farriers will be shaping metal into horseshoes and
competing for the ‘Best Shod Foot’ title and Moreton Show is also hosting over
30 Horse of the Year qualifiers (HOYs) - so the horse rings will be full all day.
Sheep Shearing is back! This was a new feature at
Moreton Show last year and the crowds loved it - entries are now open and will
close on Monday 12th August. The Oxford Sandy & Black Pig
Society will be showcasing their beautiful Sandy and Black piggies in the
Farmtastic Area for all to enjoy. The Oxford Sandy and Black breed has been on
the verge of extinction a number of times, so the team are delighted to be able
to show them this year. The brand new Attwell
Farm Park feature will also be in the Farmtastic Area: here you will be able to
get up close to many different farm animals and learn a lot about becoming a
farmer!
RPM Bike Trials will be centre stage in the Rural
Attractions Ring, performing a variety of cool tricks – the Moreton Show team
highly recommend you do not try these at home though! The Vintage Tractors will
be parading in the Rural Attractions Ring, showcasing how machines have evolved
from the early 1900’s to the beasts you see in the fields today. Terrific
terriers will also be called into the ring to participate in the Terrier Racing:
this is highly amusing for the terriers and for everyone watching. There will
also be the Cotswold Raw Companion Dog Show for your four-legged friend to
participate in. There will be a static display of many different Series Two
Land Rovers in the Rural Attractions Area and visitors will be able to see the
Wye Valley Falconry superstars, visitors
will be able to get a close-up view of all different types of birds of prey
such as Owls, Hawks and Falcons at the Wye Valley Falconry stand.
Attractions Secretary, Esther Watts, says: ‘We have
been working hard behind the scenes to make Moreton Show 2024 the best one yet!
We are enthusiastic about providing a lot of free activities to keep the family
busy all day. I am particularly excited about the new Attwell Farm Park feature,
I think this is going to give visitors a great opportunity to see, stroke and
learn lots about farm animals. I am sure it is going to be hugely popular!’
Keep an eye out for the spectacular Professor Crump,
he is 8 feet tall, so you really won’t miss him. His quickfire humour and
pockets full of surprises will have the whole family in hysterics. The magical musical
bike man will also be pedaling around the showground with a trail of bubbles
following him…
Of course, the Home & Garden Marquee will, as
always, be a sight to behold with all the amazing handmade arts and crafts,
beautifully arranged flowers, huge homegrown fruit and veg, delicious homemade
cakes and bakes, fantastic childrens’ creations and a variety of jarred
delicacies. Home & Garden entries are open, so please head to the Moreton
Show website to enter now: www.moretonshow.co.uk.
